Dealer was in an accident in our new Q5

Good point and well said.

Glad to see in general that people are advocating to just ask for what's "fair" as opposed to squeezing every last drop out of the dealer. They seem to be trying to do the right thing here. As long as the OP is not paying more out of pocket, then it seems like he is getting a more than fair deal with a new car while putting mileage on a loaner in the interim.

Agree with most commenters - it appears the dealer is doing the right thing, and nice that they started at reasonable as opposed to you having to push them to get to reasonable. While not identical, I needed a replacement vehicle less than a week after buying mine as my transmission was faulty. I had a loaner for about a month until an identical Q5 could be located. Just relax, rack up the miles on the loaner, and a year from now you'll have a good relationship with the dealer going forward if you encounter any issues down the road.

I also meant to mention...for me, they treated my first Q5 (the lemon) as a trade-in and discounted the sale of my new Q5 so that $0 was exchanged when I took possession of the new Q5. I had paid cash for my Q5 - could be a bit more complicated if you have a loan on your damaged Q5.

Agreed. If you don't like the wheel locks, ask the dealer to order you a set of regular bolts and use those instead. Of course keep the wheel locks in case you want to use them later.

They are being fair as they could just legally fix it and return it. Your loaner may not be as nice but you are burning there miles and not yours so a fair trade. If it was getting fixed you would be in a beater a lot longer or paying out of pocket.

I agree with the majority here--the dealer is doing the right thing. The fine print will tell you that they are not legally liable for the damages, and I don't believe they are since the accident occurred on public roads rather than on the dealer's property (the old saw about insurance staying with the car applies here). But they are stepping up as any reasonable dealer would do. The whole thing is annoying but it's being handled pretty reasonably. They want to keep the OP as a customer.
