Default Dealer installed remote start

New member to the Q5 family. Just picked up a 2015 CPO Q5 as a replacement for our 2012 Q7 that was involved in an accident. When we picked up the car, the manager tried to sell us on the option to purchase a remote starter installed by the dealer for around $1100. He said it was due to all the focus groups that requested this option that Audi is offering it. From all the threads on this forum I was under the impression that this was very difficult to do and Audi would not be offering it. Didn't get much details as the price seemed pretty high. Was wondering if anyone else had this option pushed on them from the dealer? Would be curious as to how it works and if it will affect the keyless entry and start. Wife really wants it tho so I am looking at this and 3rd party options.

Thanks.

That seems really expensive for a remote starter. Do they replace the key fob with a different type or is it an additional fob? My wife's Passat TDI has an OEM remote start, but we don't use it very often. It does turn on the rear defroster and the heat, but it only runs for 15 minutes.

It comes with an additional one button remote to start the car. I told them I would think about it since it was so expensive.

It sounds really expensive to me, especially since the car should be capable of it with just some computer programming.

Whee do you live, is it worth the price for you?

I live in NJ and at that price it is not worth it but the wife really wants the remote start. To be honest I don't need it. Never had it on the Q7 and never needed it. I suppose there is some benefit to having it dealer installed in case there are any problems down the road.

I would pass, while our previous car had it and the SQ5 does not I will say the SQ5 has heat coming out of the vents in less than a couple of minutes.

I've heard of the factory installed remote parking heater, which isn't an option on our US-spec vehicles, but I have never heard of an OEM remote starter for the Q5 and I certainly can't find one in the parts catalog. Are you sure it's actually an Audi OE item and not an aftermarket solution that's installed by the dealer? Can you get more info on it?

That was one thing I was also confused about. I searched and was unable to find any OEM remote starter option for the Q5. Think I am going to have to call the dealer tomorrow and get more details.

Remote start can definitely be added. I'm not going to take credit for it though, since a fellow Q5-er has already done a GREAT write-up on the subject here:
