I could do my E39 oil change in 10 minutes tops and could do it in my work clothes without any mess. This is on a car that holds 7 quarts of oil. As for clean-up, all I did was empty the extractor while the oil was still warm and never worried about cleaning the inside of it. I've had it for 5+ years and had no problems at all.
It didn't come with a dipstick installed but the tube for it did and is sealed with a small plug...or at least that's the case on my 2014 3.0 TDI....I replaced said plug with a dipstick, but for extraction purposes, I'd think the tube is all you would need.

Im not sure what the extractor would miss when sucking out the oil. If there is stuff in the pan that it can't pick up then I would think there is a problem with your oil filter, that is if you are following the recommended oil change intervals.

In my experience, in my Q5 and previous vehicles, the extractor always get more out than draining from the bottom. I will stick to the extractor unless the car doesn't have a dipstick.

After I have used an extractor, I then removed the drain plug with no further oil draining out. Depending upon the design of the sump you actually remove more oil by suction.....

Is this the case for the 3.0T gasoline engine, too?

Yes, but you can buy a dipstick from your friendly Audi dealer.

Thanks. Don't really care for the dipstick. I was just making sure the tube was there if I ever wanted to do my own oil change via extractor.

I use extractor on my BMW and also used it on my wife's MB before - it always worked like a charm.

But there is more to an oil change than replacing the oil.

Part of that is looking at all the vitals from underneath the car such as CV boots, seals, gaskets, etc. While extracting is certainly more convenient than getting under the car if you don't have a lift, the annual inspections/services are certainly more involved.

Just my 2 cents.

Either is perfectly fine. The extractor is waaay easier and faster, plus it's far less messy. You don't have to clean out the extractor, you just pour the used oil out of the top. I'd use the extractor in my RS4 if it didn't have oil pan baffles in it (to prevent starvation under high G conditions). The extractor tube cannot reach the oil in that car. I use the extractor in my other cars though.

Do you have a TDI? I have a 2014 3.0T that is ready for it's first oil change but I have been told there is no access to the oil drain plug and filter underneath the vehicle? Does anyone know if the bottom cover can be removed?
