Dynavin N6-A5 installed....
Hello all, first, thanks to those that helped answer some of my questions. I wanted to give my afterthoughts on the install and choice of the Dynavin N6 A5 unit for the Audi Q5. Mine, or the wife’s car is a 2013 non-mmi model, she really liked the car, but turned off when it didn’t have any navigation. I assured her we could get something, but she is a fan of the factory look, hence the choice to go with the Dynavin.
For the price, I thought it was worth it to get the factory look, no wires hanging out to get tangled, no suction cups popping off the dash or windscreen, etc.
Also, if you are in the market, check out Jeff over at jandtdistributing.com, he was very helpful, had fast shipping, and answered all of my questions.
First off, some good installation news for those that might still researching this, yes, documentation is bad, so you need a little bit of knowledge to help make the install easier, unless you hire it out. On my unit the N6-A5 for the Audi, there is no need to tap into any factory wires for reverse trigger, since the unit ties into the Audi CAN-BUS, the Dynavin unit is already programmed to know when the car is put into reverse, and automatically switches to the camera. There is also a green wire, not shown on any documentation, that is a “reverse hot” wire, that is the wire only gets 12 volts when the car is in reverse, this powers the camera directly and no need for a reverse trigger wire or an ACC hot wire for the camera. I was prepared to run a relay from the reverse light, no need.
As for the Dynavin unit itself, pretty basic and straightforward, there is no fancy user options or controls, but I prefer that. The navigation, so far, is spot on but that is with only local trips. All sound options work and are clear and sound good. The Ipod connection is glitchy, but I think that is my Ipod (its 10 years old), and when I get a new/different one I will mess with it.
The install was all straight forward, a little cramp behind the radio with all the new wires, but it fits. I placed the microphone in the head console where the sun roof controls are, and sounds fine. I placed the GPS antenna under the dash. Since it is magnetized, I kept it, I hope far enough away from the unit, but also found a metal plate that I can get to if something goes wrong, without having to pull the glovebox.
The carsgadget camera, well, it’s a $35 chinese made camera. The picture is good, we’ll see on the quality for longevity. The wires are pretty small gauge, 22 I think, I would have like to see these a bit beefier. But as you can see in one of the pics, if it does fail, a straightforward fix by popping the hatch liner.
All the factory “stuff” for the AMI interface is still all there, radio, a/c controls, car info, etc…. though it did do one thing goofy, it has some sort of international symbols for the where the fan blows, head, chest, feet, etc. Ill grab a pic of that if I remember.
Anyways, I like it, may add the mirrorlink someday, but I got everything I needed out of it, navigation, ipod interface, able to stream Pandora/Spotify using the A2DP.
If you have any direct questions, let me know….

Good job. Shame Dynavin hasn't upgraded their platform to have Car Play / Android Auto built in.
I have MMI Nav in my Q5 but I still hope someone will create a Car Play / Android Auto unit to slip in between the MMI display and the MMI unit.
