Default Excessive Oil Rebuild: Trade-In Value

Hi Everyone,

Was wondering if anyone had any insight into the impact that an engine rebuild/replacement due to excessive oil consumption would have on the trade-in value of the Q5. Mine is currently drinking a quart every 500 - 700 miles, and I'm debating having the excessive oil test performed by my dealer. My Q5 is in great shape for having 77k miles on it, but I'm just worried that the value would be torpedoed by having an engine rebuild on the Carfax… Any insight or opinions would be great.

Thanks!

Do you know if the newer Q5 2.0T burn this much oil. I have a 15 year old Infiniti which burns no oil, i.e., no need to add any oil between oil changes.

Shouldn't be an issue for the MY2013 and up; there was a slight update to the 2.0T engine when Audi facelifted the Q5.

2013 and up 2.0 models do not have that problem.
and Yes your trade in value would go way down. Just sell it now as is.

That is good news. I really enjoyed my test drive of a 2016 Q5 2.0T and seriously considering this as my next car purchase. A little concerned about the threads regarding rattles and squeaks that some owners are experiencing. Still need to test drive the 3.0T and decide if the added $5K will be worth it for me.

There seems to be an abnormally high number of sqeak/rattle complaints at the top of this forum right now… For what it's worth, my '11 Q5 is still almost silent inside with the exception being the pano-roof depending on the temperature, but even that is almost imperceptible. Outside of some minor issues, my Q5 has been a phenomenal vehicle.

This. 76k on my 14 Q5 and it's more solid than any German car I've ever owned
