Face lift Taillight retrofit
I have encountered a few issues pertaining to creating harnesses for the facelift harnesses. This is a summary of what I have discovered for anyone trying to tackle this on your own. Some of this information is posted elsewhere, I just figured I would place it all in one spot.
I would like to thank LInKnOvVn and jayzak for their patience and help figuring out the differences between the US and RW spec conversions.
If anyone is interested I am still making these harnesses. PM me if interested.
Tail light function:
Pre FL(2009-2012) US models tail light brake and turn lights function separately.
Post FL(2013-present) US models tail light brake and turn lights function together.
Post FL (2013-present) RW models tail light brake and turn lights function separately.
Pre-FL models can use either taillight as a direct swap without any modification to coding. Post-FL models would require coding to use RW taillights.
Completed Harnesses:
US to US FL tail light
US to RW FL tail light
RW spec tail lights:
Features amber/yellow turn signal
8R0 945 094 C – Right Side Tail light
8R0 945 093 C – Left Side Tail light
US Spec Taillight:
Features red turn signal
8R0 945 094 D – Right Side Tail light
8R0 945 093 D – Left Side Tail light
Harness part numbers:
The new housing has two variations which look similar but are keyed differently, I am assuming this was done to prevent the installation of the wrong taillight at the factory.
Pre-FL US to FL US tail light:
(2) New housing: 8K0 973 754 A
(4) Repair wire: 000 979 164 E
(2) Old Housing: 1J0 972 734
(4) Repair Wire: 000 979 134 E
Pre-FL US to FL RW tail light:
(2) New housing: 8K0 973 754
(4) Repair wire: 000 979 164 E
(2) Old Housing: 1J0 972 734

1J0 972 734

Wiring pin out:
On the US to US spec tail light, pins 2 and 3 are crossed. The US to RW tail light uses a straight thru pin out.
