If you're hardwiring the 9500ix I'm assuming you're mounting it to the underside of the rearview mirror or at the top of the headliner where it meets the windshield or something. In either case I would route power and ground through the headliner to the drivers side a-pillar and then down to the fuse panel on the driver side of the dash (Fuse Panel C -SC-) Look for Fuse carrier 1. Fuse carrier 1 is going to be your switched power.

When you look on fuse carrier 1 you will see several blank spaces. Go to your nearest Audi/VW dealership and get repair wire number 000 979 021 E. In the US it is currently $13.68. You can then insert this repair wire into the back of the fuse panel and use it to power your radar detector. There is a dash mounting bolt right behind the fuse panel that you can use for ground as well. Look at whatever size fuse comes in your radar detector and you can just put the same size in the OEM fuse carrier for a very clean install.

If you have the start stop system, you will the following item to avoid low voltage alerts when the vehicle restarts itself at stoplights!

Hope this helps!

Great that does help alot. I tried tapping into fuse #14 but my dashboard warning lights lit up like fireworks so I quickly removed it. How exactly do I insert it into the back of the fusepanel? I will go grab it asap.

You will have to first remove the lower instrument cluster panel below the steering wheel. It is one piece from the headlight switch all of the way back to the OBD port. Once off you can remove the fuse block assembly. On your picture below I have "circled" the little tab to unlatch the fuse block. The Large curved arrow above it shows the direction it pivots to remove it. The little red arrow above it shows where I would add in the wiring and put the new fuse. Once you have the fuse block out, on the back of it you can remove a cover to expose all wires. there is a pink locking mechanism on the back of each fuse plate. When you pry on it just a little bit, it will move about 1-2mm. Dont pull it further. At that point you can insert your new repair wire into the blank spot and route it at the back. Push on the end of the pink locking mechanism to lock it back into place. Hope that helps.

You did an amazing job with this! Thanks for documenting the steps - I'm planning to do the same. Where did you get/how did you make the surround that the display sits inside that goes in the ashtray?
