Fuel Economy While Towing?

For the record...Q5 TDI, yes ?
Greetings all:
I track my fuel mileage with Fuelly. I tow 1600 miles 2 times a year-down to Florida for the winter and back in the spring. I pull an enclosed 5x8 cargo trailer with electric brakes and it is packed with various items as well as my BMW motorcycle. The truck is also loaded to the t!ts with luggage, 2 adults and 2 dogs. I get 22 mpg towing at 68mph.

Finally got the smaller 4x9 u-haul trailer specifically for motorcycles with the wheel chock and gate. Much lighter trailer towed with my S1000RR on it. 26 mpg. Much higher than the heavier trailer.
I also drove a bit faster due to having a lighter trailer.

Just did another track day with the U-haul RT trailer. The 400 mile round trip drive with two bikes inside equaling just about 900lbs plus the 1,200lbs trailer put me at an additional 2,000lbs of tow weight
24mpg.
Almost better mileage than my 2.0t would get on the highway minus the lack of power. Definitely better than the 2.0t combined and I still have loads of power, especially passing power!

Used a U-haul car carrier to tow my 03 VW Jetta to its final resting place today. The weight was about 5500# loaded for 1/2 of the 277kM trip (172mi) travelling at 90kph (55mph) and the other half was unloaded at about 2200# but traveling at 105kph (65mph). My FE was 27.7 Imp. Mpg or about 23.1 US Mpg. for the trip. I filled before and after the drive and I hand calculated all numbers. The numbers in Metric were 10.19 L/100k.
I coulda used a little more oomph in the suspension but the trailer towed straight and true, no issues at all.
The Jetta had almost 500,000kM on it before its tragic ending after hitting a F-150 right smack on the trailer hitch. Now if the driver just hadn't tried to get it home then the engine wouldn't be smoked and it might have been repairable. Poor car. RIP.

Ya, I know it was over by a bit but I also know that other than the soft rear suspension, the Q5 TDI was more than up to the challenge.
I purchased this vehicle to tow with and I WILL be pushing the the weight rating quite a bit once I pick up my travel trailer next week. Of course the Q5 hitch will be reinforced considerably and I will be using a properly set up weight distributing hitch system and trailer brake controller. I will update with my mileage and towing impressions.
