Here, I even made the comparison table relative to the 19" (and 18" since they both have same width and same ET) so you can explicitly see how the various choices would compare to what you have now. The prior table may also be of interest to you as well as that shows how your result would compare to someone with OEM 20" wheels, so you may find value in both, to help you make your decision.

Bottom line, I'd hate to see you spend more, either on painting or spacers, if you don't really need to.

ET phone home! Thanks Mark for that timely, detailed PSA.

Thanks.

Which wheel is that? I wasn't necessarily trying to cover every one that could possible exist (ie worldwide), but if this is a standard US offering, I'd be happy to add it. I know there was talk of narrow winter wheels, for instance, which I didn't bother including. Just wanted to hit the most common ones.

I think it is not offered for the U.S. market

Thus for a given ET, going from a 7" wide to an 8" wide wheel will grow 0.5" inward and 0.5" outward.
If you keep same tires, all this is useless.

For same ET and same tire width, tire will be at exact same location no matter the wheel width.

Thanks Mark. I had a handle on the basics but this is very in depth. Thanks for taking the time to help a newbie!

JB, you've got an SQ5, right? I've got the 21" wheel option on my SQ5 and as most know, the market for replacement tires is very limited and the only offerings are summer tires. I don't want to go thru another North Texas winter with summer tires, so I've been researching options and have narrowed it down to 20" Hartmann reps, which greatly expands the tire offerings. My question is, does anyone know the factory offset for the 21s/what offset I need to specify on the 20" Hartmanns to avoid spacers?

Thanks!
Yes. My offset is 25. I am also from north Texas (callisburg). This winter was brutal. Here is a pic
