Sorry I just couldn't help myself hooking you.In fact my question is as follows:
2014 Q5 TDI
I have noticed that when I go to "S"port mode the transmission will never shift to S8.Even when coasting down a long hill at highway speeds.I tried going to manual mode and shifting to S8 with the paddle shifter and it goes to 8 but after about 10 secs.it reverts to S7.I'm not overly concerned but if any of you have noticed the same it will reassure me.

That is intentional. It will also keep higher revs on other gears too.

Try using cruise control.

In models with S-tronic gearboxes when it is in the S mode is only available a 6 speed from the existing 7.
When activated cruise control is available 7-speed in the S mode
