However, you are right in that it could be used by our TDI brethren (and sisters) on an as needed basis to tell if the MMI is lying.
Correct. They cautioned me that this kind of dipstick is not to be left in the neck. I attached a key ring to the oil neck plug for easy removal and use the dipstick only for one time checks. Then it goes back on the shelf in the garage and the plug goes back in the neck. Interestingly the situation with the correct dipstick for Q5 TDI is not as clear as with petrol engines. Before I bought the Sealy one I did pretty exhaustive research including a call to ECS. Even their rep could not tell me for sure if the dipstick I was inquiring about would be the right fit. I still went ahead and bought one from my dealer (shipping charge from ECS was more expensive then the part itself). It did not fit. Too long.

Same for the 3.2l and 3.0T. I have had both and left the dipsticks in all the time, no problems. When I got my first one I noticed the entire thing was plastic so there was some question about leaving it in the engine due to the heat. That was until I noticed that the tube itself is also plastic as is the filter housing. Must be some high temp stuff. Not the best engineering choice for these type of parts IMO but it works. Probably saved them a few grams in overall vehicle weight and of course, cheaper than metal.

I just purchased a Sealey VS600ED Audi Engine Dipstick. Would anyone happen to know the correct settings for a '15 Q5 TDI?

Default Dipstick dilemma update update... Need length of dipstick...

I just received my dipstick from ECS, I have a 2015 Q5TDI 3.0. The first dipstick from Eurosports was too short (17.5") from the bottom of the orange handle... Too short. The ECS dipstick AM version (yellow handle) seems too long in that the level of oil is above the max line, actually up to the bottom of the ball... Checked when oil was cold. This one is about 20" long. For anyone who has a Sealy adjustable dipstick, please provide me with the length that the dealer set for you for your Q5 TDI 3.0. Based on the picture posted it looks like it was set at 9.2. I need the length in inches from the tip to where the handle contacts the tube.. Want to verify if this one is the correct length. If it's not, I will send this back, use the MMI and hope that the sensor keeps working... What a hassle to find the answer to a very simple question... ECS would not guarantee that the Q7 3.0 TDI dipstick would work in a Q5 TDI, presumably the same engine... The Q7 folks on this forum have stated that this dipstick works. VERY confused...
