Looking to buy Q5, any potential issues to be aware of?

I'd suggest a trip to the library, ask the reference desk for the Consumer Reports annual issue on cars. There have been a number of changes in engines and transmissions on the Q5 in recent years, and some of the older ones didn't get high marks for reliability.
As folks have mentioned, repairs WILL be expensive, and at 45,000 miles that's the time when you may need brake$, tire$, fluid changes...But if the price is right, and if the car needs no maintenance (routine or otherwise) or if it comes with a respectable warranty....it could be worth doing. Assuming that engine and tranny got good marks for reliability, because they will be DAMNED expensive if they need work.

Hey all,
Been lurking for a while on here and finally have a question! Recently found a Q5 I'm interested in purchasing and I wanted to ask if there are any potential issues to be aware of. ..
I've also heard of carbon build up problems but I'm not sure how pervasive those are. ...Any things to be aware of when getting in to one of these? Any problems that are common amongst these cars? Thanks in advance.

No carbon problem.
I love the ride-much better then my 2 y. o. RX 350. Love 3.2L+ 6-speed auto combo: no gear "hunting" as in new 8-speed.

q5 tdi
New owner of '14 q5 tdi and we love it. Especially the torque! Great gas milage and wonderful road manners. My only con are the brakes are not as good and quick as our A5. But probably because of the weight. You should test drive one.
