Default Miles driven on tank of fuel in TDI?

I just got back from driving from LA to Vegas and back on the Q5 TDI.
Round trip 601 miles
Filled up 17.134 gal. That is 35MPG.
MMI said had 95 miles left
I was driving around 75 miles per hour.

My personal best so far in the Q5 was a trip from West Virginia back to NYC. Not all highway, average OBC speed was 64mph, average OBC mpg was 35.1

550 miles over 17 gallons of diesel for an actual average of 32.5mpg.

Not bad at all

My first full tank of fuel yielded 29.4 MPG while driving around town and some highway driving. (473.2 miles and 16.1 gallons). The display overestimated the mileage at 33.1 so I used VAGCOM to dial it back a bit... 12%

On mixed driving 550 is solid. The Vegas trip was almost 100% highway.

I've yet to try to squeeze every last mile from a tank -
My three most miles I've driven between fill-ups are all highway
533 miles, 531, and 524
14.69 gal, 14.32, and 14.61
36.3 MPG, 37.1, and 35.9

so in each case I had about 5 gallons remaining when I filled up.

MPG is all calculated, not based on the optimistic MMI, all fill-ups are consistent, no short shutoffs or top offs to get the truest MPG calculations.

Sounds about right. Got the same on mine 14 TDI multiple times.

I just got back from Vegas as well, and I got about the same fuel economy. This past trip I was traveling about 75-85 mph, but I have found that in previous trips traveling faster (approx. 90-110mph) you can get substantially better fuel economy, which is somewhat the opposite of other vehicles I own.

Also, the TDI's torque makes climbing the mountains a breeze. In fact the TDI's engine didn't even struggle at all while I traveling through the mountain passes, even with the higher altitude.

This engine puts a smile on my face every road trip.
