The display screen of mmmy Q5 looked as though it was scratched, but as you may know, it is not scratched but it is the anti glare coating that rubs off giving a scratched appearance.

The procedure was as follows.

Remove bezel around the display screen.

Remove the display from the car, 4 torx screws.

Remove the metal mounting frame from the display so that you can get the coating off completely, edge to edge.

Clean the screen with glass cleaner and rub with paper towel in a linear motion, not too wet on the paper towel. The coating will start to rub off. It goes pretty fast, not too much pressure but firmly.

I used 3M sirl remover with a microfiber cloth to remove the rest of the coating and polish the surface.

I then used a bubble free, anti glare stick on ipad screen protector film and applied it to the screen.

Trim off just a tiny bit past the screen edge but before the display area begins, it has to have clearance for the mounting frame to fit.

Reverse the removal steps.

The display looks much better than it did on the first day I got the car! It is crystal clear and now cleanable. My buddies think it looks great and want me to do this on their displays.

I recommend doing this on your "scratched" lousy looking displays, it a very easy cheap fix.

Dang! I didn't realize that anti-glare stuff would rub off so easily. I just inflicted major damage to my MMI screen while cleaning the interior of my 2010 for the first time. :-( While searching for a solution I came across this thread...

Is this bubble-free screen protector still working out well for you?
Can you point me to the exact product you used?
What would it cost to simply replace the screen?

Holy Smokes! My Audi dealer just quoted me $1,265 for a replacement display (PN 8R0919604). Can that possibly be correct?

I have a 2010 Q5 with MMI and Nav.

That sounds about right. audiusaparts sells them but you may want to double check that number. Do you know if it is a 6.5" or 7" screen? If however that screen number is 4F0919604, you can get one from an autowrecker for $250 (car-part.com)

I haven't taken the display out to confirm it yet. However, two different Audi dealers took my VIN and responded with that same number. I'm inclined to try MartinQ5's refurbishing procedure in this thread to see how it turns out. He seems pretty happy with the results. While I gear up for that I was just looking at the alternatives. If I can find one cheap from a scrap yard I may try that as well.
