Default MMI Software and Map Updates

Hi Folks,

I purchased a 2010 Q5 and quickly realized that the MMI SW and map database are now down-rev. I gleamed the following from Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multi_Media_Interface

MMI 3G+ Software versions:
Software Version: Details
HNav_US_K0110_1_D1: North-America
HNav_US_P0110_D1: Shipped with 2010 Q5 Models for North-American market
HNav_US_P0114_D1: North-America
HNav_US_P0118_D1: North-America - Factory installed, fixes issue with punctuations in street names

MMI 3G+ Navigation Database Versions:

Nav. Database Version: Details
8R0-060-884-A NAR 5.2.3: North-America
8R0-060-884-F NAR 5.3.4: Shipped with 2010 Q5 Models for North-American market
8R0-060-884-P NAR 5.4.7: North-America
8R0-060-884-AD NAR 5.5.5: North-America - Factory installed, fixes issue with punctuations in street names
8R0-060-884-AL NAR 5.5.6: North-America 2011/2012

I have the version in bold.

Is there any benefit to upgrading the software? Is it even possible? Could there by any features or improvements I may be missing out on?

Same question regarding the maps... My dealer quoted me ~$200 to upgrade the map database. Yikes! Is that the only option? Can maps be hacked or downloaded from other sources? Are the newer maps noticeably better than the old ones?

Any guidance or education would be appreciated.

Regards,
Scott

Firmware for MMI update is free - when you buy a new map

Do not buy on the internet because it's a waste of money. You must go to the Audi dealer to activate map which is on-line

I think no one has hacked the system for navigation

I really don't know why the problem is on the U.S. market.

Do you happen to know what SW/map combination is currently available in the US? Has anyone on the forum actually upgraded in this way? I'd be interested in hearing their feedback - particularly on the SW upgrade. I can imagine what better maps would feel like. However, are there any new enhancements, features, or bug fixes included in the SW update? For example, are my radio presets any easier to get to? Can I say "Presets" to avoid navigating through menus? Is the media "Mix" setting sticky now? Are the maps noticeably better? In other words... Would I get anything noticeable for the $200 upgrade?

Thanks,
Scott

JohnBoyToo, how long ago did you do this upgrade? Can you check your version info screen and let me know what SW and map versions you ended up with?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks again!

What about the SW version? Did you end up with HNav_US_P0118_D1?

Cheers,
Scott
