I didn't realize you could put in a dipstick where the oil is placed. Do I need a special type of dipstick?
Read this from Audi..........

The electronic oil level display

Description of measurement system

Function limitations:

Measurement not possible at temperatures below 40°C (oil change)

Measurement not accurate when vehicle is on incline (note in the MMI)

Dynamic measurement is subject to at least 50 km (30 miles) being travelled (100 km for 4-cyl. diesel engines); it may be considerably longer with a heavy driving style. "This is also the case for short-distance drivers who frequently open the bonnet"
Summary: "The customer will not see any oil level display!"

Accuracy: 250 ml

You can also get a quart of compliant oil and add half and see where it ends up on the MMI readout. You have to drive for ~100 miles after opening the hood to generate an updated reading.
Or you can put the key back in after shutting off your engine with out starting (brake peddle not pressed) and wait about 30 seconds for the MMI to display the oil level.
