Hello All,

Selling my 2012 Jeep and picking up a "last year" new 2014 Q5 from dealer next week. Looking forward to changing from utilitarian to upscale with the change. Just wanted to say Hi! First trip after Christmas will hopefully be to the Nurburgring for its christening!

Welcome, make sure you break it in properly before hitting the "ring", about 1000km of varied driving.

I'll have about a week to go through the break in period, so plenty of time to get everything well seated before giving it any sort of spirited run. Weather isn't exactly great for a hot lap, so that may have to wait until spring of next year. Lucky for me, the Ring is only about 45 minutes away!

Damn! I love my Q but it certainly wouldn't be my choice of vehicle to flog around the Nurburgring

the 'ring can be real torture on any car. Brakes, tires among other parts. Not sure I would push the car in such an extreme way after a new break-in. This car is not a Porsche or Ferrari

I've put a Jeep Wrangler and a Volvo XC90 out on the ring for a couple of laps, so the Q5 should be a much easier ride than both of those to handle. Mind you, my boy-racer days are long gone. Will not be trying for any course records in it! 3/4 of the fun is just seeing all of the amazing cars that get flogged around the Nordschleife.

So thanks to the holiday break and the customs office closing, I will not be picking up the Q5 until after the new year. So much for an early present for me. Looks like I'll celebrate 2015 with a new gift instead.
