Similarly, I had 3 BMWs (and an Evoque--but we won't talk about that) since 1995, but the Audi SQ5 is easily the best overall car I have ever owned.

My wife an I also were BMW owners since the early 70's.
We chose a 2016 Q5 over the X3 or X5 and are very happy. We chose the 2.0T for the lower price than the diesel, better MPG than the 3.0, and likely lower cost of service and repairs in the long run. We don't drive that fast anymore and the 2.0's power is surprisingly good for such a small engine. The eight speed transmission does a very good job of keeping the engine in its power band. It is a great match for the 2.0. I suspect the 2.0 is significantly lighter than the 3.0 and especially the TDI, which I think makes it feel pretty nimble.
