Me thinks you're missing the point...
With the two drivers face-to-face, the total "cone area" is the same as one. What's different, is that when you use them in tandem, working together in this way, they can potentially move the same amount of air at half the power. It's not exact, of course, but I'm not a physics professor either. Long story short, they help each other in ways a dual-voicecoil driver cannot. I know it works. What I don't know is if it would work in the little stock cabinet, volumetrically speaking.
