Wow that is a smokin' deal! What size did you get? Tire Rack has the 255/50/19s listed for $840 + $65 shipping. Were they having a sale? Discount Tire sold them to me for $840 with a $75 mail in rebate so I thought I did pretty well, guess not. Congrats!

235/60R18. Q5 is a Premium Plus. I dont know if they were having a sale. I just asked the dude for a price quote, and when he spit out their price, immediately said he'd honor a cheaper price if I found one. I then immediately showed him Tire Rack's price and deal was done!

Got a call this morning saying tires arrived. Will be installed today.

Thanks for the clarification. I "assumed" they were 19s, should know better by now.

my 2011 Q5 has Continental Crosscontact LX20 and it lasted 35,400 miles. Not bad but not great either. It did have good grip, cornering and relatively low noise.
I now have Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season plus and notice that it is already quieter. I will know more about handling and cornering after a while.

Heh... I am used to getting no more than about 20K miles out of my tires, so I'd be thrilled if I could get 35K.

Default LX20 Winter Update

Compared to the OEMs, the ride is much smoother and quieter IMO. There is also a noticeable difference in handing, especially cornering. It feels much more planted and steady in the turns now. I'm hoping the winter performance lives up to the ratings on the tire rack survey. They apparently don't make them in the OEM size 235x55x19 so I got 255x50s. They are just a little wider, about 3/4" but the section height is almost identical @ 5". They had a $75 rebate sale going at Discount Tire so including the 4 replacement certs it was about $1,020 out the door. The first place rating on the Tire Rack survey caught my eye as well. Very pleased so far. Anything over 18k tread life will be an improvement, I'm expecting at least twice that.
Update, first snow of the season and several sub zero days here in Northern Colorado. Only got a few inches but the temps have left a lot of snowpack and ice in areas that didn't get plowed. The LX20s have excellent traction for starting, stopping and cornering. The Tire rack survey ratings are well deserved. The OEM Conti Sports were a joke compared to these. I even tried throwing it around a little in an empty parking lot just to see what they would do. It did slide but not much, very easy to control and steer out of a skid. Last test for these will be treadwear. Overall really enjoying them and will buy again.
