Q5 Transmission Question
Have a 2016 Q5. I notice that when I engage the automatic transmission into Reverse the car typically rolls forward for one or two feet before it engages. It has caught my attention a few times when in tight spaces. Any ideas?

Hi,
I do have 2011 q5 with 2.0t and 8speed automatic tran. And have same thing like you...
I think its normal.... There is some time maybe depends what software is in tran. Module but You have 2016 car so its should be all up to date...

Let me see if i understood you correctly. You put your foot on the brake. You shift into reverse. You take your foot off the brake pedal, and the car moves forward two feet? That's not normal at all.

That is what I was thinking. I bet he is not touching the brake.

Here is what happen to me when I am make u-turn here on my street I am not mostly push the brake pedal to stop fully the car just touch the pedal to switch it to the revers because I am not moving that fast so my car move forward for little but if I push it for couple of more seconds car just engaged normally.... So its deepens what exactly happened to him...

Moving forward a bit will naturally happen on inclined surfaces because of gravity. This can be quite noticeable on some cars with low torque to curb weight ratio.
If it is taking a long time to engage the gear or moving a few feet on a level surface, I would think there's a problem.

If you come to a complete stop and stay stopped your transmission will shift much quicker and most probably last longer too.

I believe the OP is saying he has fully depressed the brake pedal first when this happens (unlike vikislap). If that's the case, and he's not on an incline, then that's definitely not normal.
OP, I would just take it to your dealer to look at under warranty. I assume you can reproduce this for their benefit. And don't park directly across from any of us for now haha.
