I have a 2012 2.0T with 35k miles. My sun visor clip broke and was fixed under warranty, but other than that it's just regular maintenance so far. I'd say reliability is somewhere between your LS (which is bulletproof) and your A8.

Consumer Reports named the A5 the most reliable car in the coupe/convertible class earlier this week. Since the Q5 is based on the A5 platform and both are now very late in their generation lifespan, I assume the Q5 would be very reliable as well.

Anybody want to venture a guess why that is? Is the turbo less reliable than the supercharger?

Engine aside, what else is different between these cars that would significantly impact reliability?

Mine is a 2013 Q5 3.0T, bought new. I have had no issues at all. Just turned 15,000 miles, and had the servicing done. Love the car. The power is there when I need it driving on the mountains roads where I live. I have reported on gas mileage in another thread. I'd consider a 2013, 3.0T CPO in a heatbeat, if I were in that market.

I have only had our Q5 TDI since July. It has been flawless and we have thoroughly enjoyed every mile of travel. We have just hit 4,975 miles and have scheduled our first service visit. The diesel is simply incredible. We are very satisfied.

Smaller sample size for the TDI and 3.0, would be my thought

We have a 2014 with the 3.0 gas. Absolutely love this vehicle with 15,000 miles. Not one issue, lots of power, great ride and the car is a work of art to look at. Enjoy !!!!

I still love mine. Just this week turned 150,000 miles on my 2010 Q5 3.2. I have had no issues, not even the carbon issue that some people have. I would buy another, although no reason to get rid of my perfectly good one.

I have 2011 Q5 2.0T with 54,600 miles currently. It had the following issues, which were all covered under warranty and trouble free at the moment.

1. Sun visor clips - driver and passenger side (fixed within 10 minutes)
2. Hood latch sensor - TSB
3. Water leak into passenger footwell - TSB
4. Replaced Fuel pump control module -TSB
5. Replaced pressure regulating valve and front crank seal -TSB

Had to replace one tire due to puncture in side wall but that can happen in any car. Front brake rotors and pads were replaced at about 33k miles. OEM tires lasted about 35k miles.
I love the ride and hope to keep it for a few years even after the CPO warranty runs out at 100k miles.

The reliability of the Q5 varies greatly with the year. There were some issues with oil consumption, I think solved in 2013 when the engines and transmissions were changed. I'd suggest going to the local library and checking the specifics in the Consumer Reports annual auto issue, you may not want a 2012 or earlier model compared to the newer ones.
