So my dad asked me to look into a 14 or 15 Q5, what are the diffs?

I know I am going to get flamed for this but I never understood the logic of driving a diesel in the US.
We have one of the cheapest gas prices in the world and we end up paying premium for diesel and diesel cars while the rest of the world is getting them at a discount.
Yeah I get the torque and the range thing but where I live, diesel is more expensive than premium.
I will never own or pay premium for diesel in the US.
But I agree can't go wrong with it either.

That would mean nothing, however, if the diesel wasn't so much fun to drive. I have an A4 2.0T and my family owns an A5 2.0T and the Q5 TDI I test drove blew them both out of the water while returning 30 miles per gallon, and 50 smiles per gallon.

Regarding the cost of the fuel, even if diesel is 5-15% more expensive than premium in some markets, diesel vehicles get 30-50% better fuel mileage than comparable gas vehicles, so the math is in the diesel's favor.

As was noted earlier, in many parts of the US (including where I am), diesel fuel is actually cheaper than Premium gasoline. Right now Premium here is around $3/gal while diesel is $2.75/gal.
If not for the extreme short tripping that my wife does, I would have strongly suggested a TDI for her as well.

I have to agree as well to check out the '14 TDI. I got my CPO right before Thanksgiving last year and love it! I'm based in Northern CA and right now diesel is less than regular unleaded. If you check around, I've seen low mileage CPO diesels still available but they go pretty quickly given the current fuel prices and I believe most of them are dealer loaners. Good luck!
