Hey guys, just wanted to see how other SQ5 owners are doing on fuel efficiency. I know I have over 2000 miles on my car, but under some odd circumstances I finally filled up my car from an empty tank for the first time in the US. I did European Delivery on my car and didn't bother to convert the numbers from liters to gallons while I was on my trip.
Now this was only driving in local city conditions with very little or no highway driving on this tank of gas, but my calculated MPG was around 15 MPG. I guess that's not too far off from the official rating of 16 MPG City. Hopefully with some more mixed driving conditions, I'll see that number get over 20 MPG. But I have noticed that when I'm driving locally like at a stop light, I can't help myself gassing the car and leaving everyone behind, so I'm sure that's not helping my MPG.
I do 45 miles a day with it back and forth to work, mixed of highway and stop and go. It is telling me about 18 mpg average over the last 3 tanks of fuel. Not to bad I guess. My C6Z06 Vette would do about the same in the same driving conditions.
Please everyone add your stats to Fuelly.com to get the SQ5 officially added. You can manually enter the model and when Fuelly sees enough of these come in, they'll add that model to the public listing. Right now I suspect owners turn away when they don't see it as a public option - so we need to get over the hump to get it added and then hopefully more will participate. You can read the details here:
I didn't buy the SQ5 expecting stellar gas mileage, but so far, it's quite a bit worse than I anticipated. I just broke 600 miles today and I'm about a quarter way in to my 4th tank of gas. The on board computer is claiming I'm averaging about 12 mpg and some calcs on the fill ups confirm that number. I have a feeling several things are contributing to this dismal number so for this tank I'm trying my hardest to keep the drive select in auto or comfort the transmission in "D" rather than "S", and resist the urge to open it up in the breaks in SoCal traffic to see if I can get a bit better mileage (less than 180 miles to the last tank was painful!). Throughout the first few tanks, I was blaming the poor mileage on the engine still breaking in, though not sure how drastic an impact that would actually be. I'm guessing a huge contributing factor is that my average speed is about 15 miles per hour since 95% of my driving along PCH in rush hour. I have yet to have a real highway drive in the 600 miles which I'm anticipating (hoping / praying) that when I do, I'll be close to the published mileage. Finally, again, no idea the impact, but here in California we get a "winter blend" in the pumps which I'm sure doesn't help the situation. Anyway, will report back as I rack up the miles and get through this tank driving like a grandma!
Besides the mileage (and the horrendous transmission logic in casual driving), I absolutely love this car though!
The average speed definitely has a lot to do with poor mileage. My typical average speed is about 28 mph due to traffic, which gives me 14-17 mpg. My first tank was 12. The SQ5 is definitely no hybrid in the urban environment.
