Default SQ5 fuel efficiency?

Hey guys, just wanted to see how other SQ5 owners are doing on fuel efficiency. I know I have over 2000 miles on my car, but under some odd circumstances I finally filled up my car from an empty tank for the first time in the US. I did European Delivery on my car and didn't bother to convert the numbers from liters to gallons while I was on my trip.

Now this was only driving in local city conditions with very little or no highway driving on this tank of gas, but my calculated MPG was around 15 MPG. I guess that's not too far off from the official rating of 16 MPG City. Hopefully with some more mixed driving conditions, I'll see that number get over 20 MPG. But I have noticed that when I'm driving locally like at a stop light, I can't help myself gassing the car and leaving everyone behind, so I'm sure that's not helping my MPG.

I get crap for mileage but I'm 80-90% urban city and drive with a heavy foot. 13-17 city and about 23 highway. City is the same as my prior V8 M3 while hwy is 2-3 mpg better.

I have a little over 2300 miles of mostly city driving and I'm getting 18.6 mpg. Not great but it's also about 100 smiles per gallon. Steve

Mileage is hard to compare. Driving style, driving conditions, weather, traffic, all have such a big impact. SQ5 is likely to have a more assertive driving style behind the wheel? : - )

I have about 1200 miles on mine so far...

I do 45 miles a day with it back and forth to work, mixed of highway and stop and go. It is telling me about 18 mpg average over the last 3 tanks of fuel. Not to bad I guess. My C6Z06 Vette would do about the same in the same driving conditions.

Please everyone add your stats to Fuelly.com to get the SQ5 officially added. You can manually enter the model and when Fuelly sees enough of these come in, they'll add that model to the public listing. Right now I suspect owners turn away when they don't see it as a public option - so we need to get over the hump to get it added and then hopefully more will participate. You can read the details here:

Here is a link to the Fuelly SQ5 page:

I'm in there but only have 900 of my 1800 miles logged.

I just signed up as well and installed the Android app.

So far, everyone is getting much better mileage than I am. :-p

Default similar to an S4

Looking on fuelly.com the SQ5s are getting about the same mileage as S4s. Lose handling and gain utility while maintaining similar gas mileage = winning.

I absolutely agree with the comment
The same vehicle with different drivers can have different consumption up to 40%

Same issue for us TDI owners. As it gets colder, MPG is dropping.

The gas engines are probably suffering worse if your state has the EPA winter ethanol blend at your pumps.

Enjoy your driving experiences.

I didn't buy the SQ5 expecting stellar gas mileage, but so far, it's quite a bit worse than I anticipated. I just broke 600 miles today and I'm about a quarter way in to my 4th tank of gas. The on board computer is claiming I'm averaging about 12 mpg and some calcs on the fill ups confirm that number. I have a feeling several things are contributing to this dismal number so for this tank I'm trying my hardest to keep the drive select in auto or comfort the transmission in "D" rather than "S", and resist the urge to open it up in the breaks in SoCal traffic to see if I can get a bit better mileage (less than 180 miles to the last tank was painful!). Throughout the first few tanks, I was blaming the poor mileage on the engine still breaking in, though not sure how drastic an impact that would actually be. I'm guessing a huge contributing factor is that my average speed is about 15 miles per hour since 95% of my driving along PCH in rush hour. I have yet to have a real highway drive in the 600 miles which I'm anticipating (hoping / praying) that when I do, I'll be close to the published mileage. Finally, again, no idea the impact, but here in California we get a "winter blend" in the pumps which I'm sure doesn't help the situation. Anyway, will report back as I rack up the miles and get through this tank driving like a grandma!

Besides the mileage (and the horrendous transmission logic in casual driving), I absolutely love this car though!

The average speed definitely has a lot to do with poor mileage. My typical average speed is about 28 mph due to traffic, which gives me 14-17 mpg. My first tank was 12. The SQ5 is definitely no hybrid in the urban environment.

I'm lucky to get ~21 mpg in mixed driving on my 3.0T.

The mileage is what scarred me away from the SQ5. I'd probablty be doing closer to 17-18 with my driving habbits on a SQ5.

Also, the 21" summer tires kill your gas mileage even more.

To bad the SQ5 wasn't a TDI. I could have justifed the extra $7000 price wise.....but I just didn't see the value in it.

I sure hope no one approached the SQ5 thinking it was going to be good on gas...just ok in my opinion.

12 sure does seem low but I don't know how you drive. I keep mine in dynamic but the transmission in D most of the time.
