Default SQ5 Launch Mode

Hi Guys, Own a SQ5 TDI... 1,500km on the clock and loving every meter it's been driven. Who here has used the Launch control?? I have had a go twice when I was test driving the car at the dealers but yet to have a go on my own as I understand it puts quiet a bit of strain on the transmission... What are your thoughts?

I haven't tried any launch on my SQ5 TFSI, but I get the impression it's just a brake torque launch. Isn't the process just traction control off, manual mode, mash brake, mash accelerator (torqueing against brakes) and go? Since there is no DSG, the transmission doesn't have a way to be neutral and "drop the clutch" so to speak. I would guess doing this with the torque converter transmission is not good for it but hey, historically they're stout. My dad used to tell me about brake torque launching V8s in the late 60s and said they never nuked any of them doing it.

Never did launch control since my cars have been manual. I am curious about "launch control." My thinking is like what Transfer said...or is their a setting you have to chose "launch control"? I would think, just lay on the brake, get the RPM's up and take your foot off the brake...I'd like to try it with the Q5 TDI ;-)
Has anyone with the TDI done it yet?
