[QUOTE=acadapter;24579027]Which mount did you have on your Max? I have a Carbon Fiber Max and originally used it on my Genesis Coupe that rode on low profiles and I never noticed the squeaking. Perhaps the audio covered it up, but it seemed pretty rock solid.

I have a question; for those of us that have the Escort Max with the Mobile Device enabled Smartcord, is there a way to keep that functionality and still wire it up to the rear view

Sorry for the other post. This is the set-up that I am going with.

I used the sticky mount. I wasn't the only one with the problem. You can find others on the escort forums.

Look at Invisicord. They offer one that will work.

Yeah, the sticky cup mount should be named the Squeaky Mount. The one featured in this thread is quiet.

After getting a ticket in Oct ’13 on 87 via Lidar (laser pointed gun), and it was my first speeding ticket in 8 years (miraculously), I did some research on them.

I’m no expert, but here is my 2 cents:

Like I said the last radar detector I had was 15+ years ago and it went off all the damn time and was annoying. This new generation Escort Max has a super-fast processor, scans and blocks out all false signals, and can automatically store and save false locations. Plus there is other cool stuff like downloading the phone app to see where other Easort Max users have currently received live radar signals. It’s very helpful when driving on the highway for long periods of time to see where there have been recent cops/radar signals on your route.

I frequently travel the highways (2014 SQ5 and just hit 15k miles) here (85, 87, 101, 280) and this helps me find/locate the CHP. The CHP use KA Band Radar 98% of the time here in the bay area and this is the type of signal the radar works well for. So it helps locating the CHP in various ways: 1) as they drive on the highways, they seem to drive with the KA band radar on 90% of the time, 2) as they are parked checking speed of cars passing by, or park perpendicular to the highway doing speed traps, 3) as I’m approaching one from behind, or they are sneaking up on me behind, etc.

Now for Lidar, this is when you see the CHP standing outside their car pointing the laser gun at traffic, it won’t help giving you advance warning unless he’s pointed it at cars in front of you and your radar detrrector briefly catches it. With Lidar, the CHP has to pull the trigger and point it at your front hood, and relect the laser back to get a reading. But in my experience, the CHP rarely use Lidar, mostly in non-peek hours of traffic, you just need to be a little more aware.

There are Lidar/Laser jammers, but they are illegal in California, and that’s a whole other topic. 

Other benefits of the Escort Max:
• It verbally speaks (voice alerts) and notifies you of know stationary speed traps & red-light camera’s (not that I run red lights, but still helpful)
• Works on K Band, these seem to be the signs that display your speed
• Identifies real threats faster and more accurately
any other detector.
• SEMA 2013 best new product
• LED screen
• Over speed limit notification (SQ5 has this too)
• Auto learn via GPS

Anyway… It’s the best $500 I’ve spent in a long time and would highly recommend one.
As far as phone apps to alert to "hot spots" that's good stuff. Most CHP who are posted use a pattern of places ideal for utilizing lidar and radar so that could alert you on when it's a good idea to slow versus when it's just generally time to keep an eye out. But for $500 that's a bit pricey imo. As far as what the CHP use, your info was probably correct years ago..most CHP offices in the bay area have enough lidar devices to stock officers on duty. Radar is primarily used in locations where lidar isn't optimal or from vehicle mounted systems (front and rear) when the vehicle is in motion. As far as in motion - a radar detector could potentially save you if you weren't obscenely over the limit and the officer had to scan traffic to see who the reading was coming from while in motion (giving you time to slow without slamming on your brakes). But again that's a best case scenario - these kids for the most part are highly trained in visual estimations which are not necessarily based on speed versus other traffic.

As far as officers posted utilizing lidar devices the device (depending on distance) gives a nearly instantaneous reading - this device will only alert you once you have already been tagged. A second reading from the same vehicle is not required.

Personally I wouldn't spend the cash on any of these detectors but if it gives you peace of mind so be it! Best policy is to keep your speed under 80 in the bay. Also keep in mind state agencies like CHP don't produce revenue for their department from traffic citations. Their goal is simply to reduce speed related collisions - whether that be because you were errant, or because there was an unexpected incident (another errant driver or debris/animal) that your speed did not allow you to avoid.

I'm not a cop but I did stay at a holiday inn

Quick question!!! So I got my escort max with the blend mount installed. Works great!!! But the only issue I am having is it shuts off when I go into reverse. I installed it with the mirror tap using the white wire with the black mark as hot and the brown as ground. Any suggestions??

Although, this would suggest that something in the mirror unit "turns off" when the car is in reverse. That's not the compass...does the autodimmer undim in reverse??

Or is there a different power line that would be better to use?

I wired my V1 the same and mine doesn't turn off in reverse. Of course I did this during the day. Is yours turning off only at night with the auto dimmer on?
