Using stock lug nuts and $20 ebay Audi center caps.

Total Price: ~$1300
I've had several sets of Nokians. They are, IMO, the best but sizes are limited.

Well they have the correct sizes for the Q5 and I agree...best winter tires I've owned. Better traction and stability compared to Blizzaks on my previous AWD car.

I thought I'd make my first post on here about winter tires, seeing as I am from Norway and we have a pretty harsh winter.

The best winter tires I've had have all come from Nokian, and the latest one is Hakka R2 SUV. By far the best tires on ice and snow and they are very quiet when driving. Michelin has come out with a tire (Michelin X-Ice XI13) that has proved to be a bit better on wet asphalt, but it doesn't come in a SUV version until next year.

I should note that I talk about the best tires, IMO, without studs. You have to pay a fee to use studded tires when driving in the city in Norway (at least in Oslo) so no one uses them here.

I will definitely be putting Hakka R2's on my new Q5. Should get it in 2 or 3 weeks

Thanks everyone. Looks like I'm going with the Nokian R2s. From what I'm gathering, the Nokians seem to be the preferred choice over the Blizzaks from those that have actually owned both.

Does anyone know the exact wheel specs I need to get for these to drop right on the SQ5? Can I fit 18"s? The front brake rotors are pretty large...

I don't think 18" wheels will fit... that is what everyone has said at least. One of the links Spijun copied has a whole dialogue about it if you want to take a look.

I have 19" x 8 wheels from Hartmann ET35 - just put them on this morning with the winter set up and there is about a 1/4" clearance on the front rotors....so it looks like a very close fit.

Some 18s will fit. TireRack lists about 15-18 wheels that fit.

Clearly it's in TR's best interest to promote wheels that don't fit then have to made amends [/sarc]

There may be 18s that fit but I don't think anyone on here has done it. Based on the aesthetics of my 19s, personally I wouldn't do 18s if they were free.

Good for you. I run 17's because they work best for me.
