Tell Me How many miles before 1st Changed Brakes
#11
I do a lot of highway driving and a lot of heavy braking. So at about 28K miles, when i went into the dealer for a flat repair (under tire care plan), they 'cautioned' me to change the brakes and rotors because it had 5mm and 6mm left, but after swapping them out at 30K (1 year 9 months of ownership) i saw that its only 50% worn.
Bought pads and rotors separately and went to my local independant garage to do it.
Pads from Zeckhausen Racing by Stoptech - $189
Rotors from CarID by EBC - $361
Labor for install - $160

I have a 2013 Q5 3.0 with 40k. The front brake pad sensor went off and I took it to the dealer. They measured the pads at 4/32". In Pa the state inspection requires change at 2/32 or under. The dealer wanted $975 for the front pad and rotor replacement. I contacted an independent shop and they quoted $625.
The interesting thing is the independent shop said for a 3.0 there were 3 different pads listed with varying prices. I was quoted what they said were the most popular. So I was wondering what the 3 pads are and what trim levels or options the brake pads change. They said the prices were quite a bit different.

I replaced the fronts at 43k miles, $650 at the dealer 2 years ago. Now at 88k and need them done again, indie shop quoted me $700, so will just go back to the dealer.
Rears are still original.
