Default Checked to reconfirm in CA that Hybrids are exempt

Here: https://www.dmv.ca.gov/vr/smogfaq.htm

On a technical/policy basis, it's explained here, though frankly it sounds as much like political views as any insolvable technical or test procedure issue: http://www.bar.ca.gov/80_BARResource...ng/hybrid.html But, I guess as they say about "gift horses"...

It does take out an incremental $50 in ownership cost and added time every other year once the checks start in year six. Given their wording per the first first link I will need to look at the DMV registration next year and see if the "abatement fee" (aka more incremental tax) for the normal smog check exemption in the first five years also is eliminated.

Here's the Washington DOT website for emissions testing:

http://www.dol.wa.gov/vehicleregistr...emissions.html

Note the Exempt Vehicles section at the bottom. My Prius qualifies for the first listed exemption, and there's no time/age limit mentioned.

Also note that Diesel vehicles newer than 2007 are also exempt (for the TDI owners).
