The headliner is the ceiling on the interior of the car. With the Sport Interior Package (+/or S-line?), the headliner is black. On the car I ordered without the Sport Interior Package, the headliner is a very light grey (I think). In any event, it's a very light color as opposed to black.

Got it... My TDI interior is dark gray seats but the headliner is light gray or a very light color.

Thanks for all of your comments. It sounds like there is a real loyal Audi following here. I am waiting for my local dealer to get a Q5 with the sports interior in stock this week so I can see it first hand. I am guessing that with the semi transparent sun roof shade the dark head liner may be to my liking. I will test drive the car a bit longer this second time, but I think if I can work out a decent deal I will go ahead and pull the trigger if all goes well.

All I can say is that I recommend looking at the TDI. My wife's Q5 2.0T was just in the shop and dealership gave me a brand new '15 TDI loaner. Man, what a difference in performance and mpg's. Only had 77 miles on it, so it's not even broken in yet.

Questions, is it the greater torque that you are referring to and doesn't the higher cost of diesel gas offset the increased mileage? How much higher is the actual price of the TDI to the gas version?

Eng------City---Hwy--Comb--HP---TQ---Price
2.0 TFSI--20----28----23----220--258--$41.8K
3.0 TFSI--18----26----21----272--295--$44.9K
3.0 TDI---24----31----27----240--428--$47.0K

I've never really compared them side-by-side before. A difference like that will more than justify the per-gallon price difference.
It seems that the decision to go with the TDI is based solely on up-front price vs. mileage, whereas the SQ5 can only be measured in smiles-per-gallon.

Yes, referring to the torque in the TDI. As far as diesel goes, it's cheaper than 93 octane here in my town.

Substantially cheaper here as well in California and we only get 91 octane max.

I wouldn't say the only reason to go TDI is mileage. I'll grant you it's a nice perk, but TDis have a ton more torque, louder exhaust, and every time I drive mine I'm smiling ear to ear as well. Superchargers are nice, as I have a Vortech V1 blower on another car, but personally I prefer turbos. Several years of experience dealing with forced induction has made me think differently about blowers vs turbos.

Well, yeah...but the only Bi-TDI Q's are Euro only. I know of several North American SQ owners on here that would have rather had the Bi-TDI Euro version. They also offered in Europe, albeit briefly, what could be considered an SQ7. It was a Bi-TDI V12. I actually had my eye on those, but they never brought them to North America. In regards to the exhaust note, you must be comparing the TDI to the regular Q5, because the SQ5 sings a hardy folk song of joy and exhilaration.

My North American 3.0 TDI (single turbo) has 428 lb-ft of torque. Compare that to the 3.0 TFSI's 295 lb-ft of torque or even the SQ5's 346 lb-ft of torque and it's still a ton more than both. I'll grant you it's not the SQ5 TDI's 479 lb-ft of torque, but it is hardly a substantially weaker engine. The BiTurbo's extra turbo merely accounts for an extra 50 lb-ft of torque and 73 hp of a difference stock. Of course I would love the extra power, but Americans just aren't that lucky right now. Also the exhaust is louder.... I know it's hard to believe, but I assure you .... I'll grant you that the SQ5 has a sporter sound to its exhaust, but the TDI is pure beefiness and deep sounding, which makes it louder. At full throttle the TDI sounds like a semi, where the SQ5 sounds closer to the Macan, more refined, but not that loud. If I could have gotten the biturbo SQ5 here in California I would have, but that in no way diminishes the power of my TDI..... and yes I know the hp differences, but with this type of torque it will give its counterparts a run off a line or up a hill easily and be very fuel efficient while doing it.
