For those with shifting issues

Our Q5 stumbles frequently in low rpm/speed situations. It seems like a turbo lag and gear hunting combination. Once moving things get smoother. It's not a deal breaker for me but a reminder of what's going on. Our other car is also a 2.0t 8 speed and is much more linear at low speeds.

To clarify I complained about rough shifting at low speeds like stop & go traffic. Dealer updated software which reduced the low speed shifting issues but now the tranny rough downshifts whenever braking from 35 mph or so. Dealer told me Audi programs the tranny to incorporate engine braking. So the rpms jump up as you are braking causing the car to lurch just like with a manual. Audi & VW constantly have issues programming the shifting correctly. My 6 spd in Passat had multiple updates which never solved all the shifting issues.

When brand new I had a couple of very rough shifts from 2nd to 1st when coming to a stop, in fact so rough I had to check to make sure the engine was still running. It felt like stalling a manual car. Haven't experienced it since the car was totally new though, in December or January. 2014 2.0T.
I've also tried very different driving styles for different tanks of gas. Driving with paddles on the freeway it seems to make absolutely no difference if I cruise at 2000 rpm, 2700 rpm, or 3500 rpm. The engine seems roughly equally efficient no matter what (meaning energy out equals energy in equals fuel consumed). What matters is that at higher rpms it's far more sensitive and requires good throttle control and a light touch. I find 3000 a good cruising rpm. It's also not particularly loud - the noise relates more to throttle; hit it and it's loud, but just cruising with a light touch it's not particularly loud. It's also nice to be able to downshift and let up on the throttle to slow down rather than dragging my brakes.
