Two reasons for avoiding going to the dealer
Time flies! My Q5 is nearly 1 year old. During the past year, I went to Audi dealer twice:
(1) 5000 mile service:
When I drove home, I noticed that the oil level is at 80% to max.
I got some Mobile 1 European formula 0W40 to top it. Needed about 1/5 quart.
(2) Today, I noticed the coolant level is pretty close to "min". So, I drove to an Audi dealer. They are very nice to top it off. When I drove home, this is what I noticed:
I had to use a suction pump to get rid of the excess, about 12oz.
These are simple enough jobs. Are they careless or simply incompetent?

This shouldn't be a huge issue. Excess of coolant will just go out, this will not do any harm. There is a safty valve.
I have to say, my Audi dealer is awesome. I have a VW and a toyota at home amd Audi just spoiled me.

"Routine service at dealers is usually handled by the most junior techs."
Yup. The guys who fill things are one step above the floor sweepers.
The discrepancy on the oil level could just be that the oil hadn't drained down into the crankcase when you looked at the gauge. That's one reason a dipstick, which is marked "HOT" and "COLD" to reflect those changes, ain';t obsolete yet.
Antifreeze still wholesales for $5/gallon, topping off a car might cost fifty cents. The paperwork to log the car in and out costs more than that! So, it is cost effective to make the customer happy and not have to process banking or cash handling at the same time.
Using an unauthorized suction pump to remove excess fluids can and will void your warranty though. Don't let the dealer know you did that. (WEG)

I have never heard of using a suction pump to remove excess fluids voiding any warranty, that is a reach if I have ever heard of one for sure.
The oil was petty in my eyes, 1/5 of a quart is not enough to worry about and is with in spec for the oil level. Nothing says the oil change is to bring the vehicle to the full max reading, only requirements of an oil change is to make sure you are with in the operational range.
As said go and buy the dipstick, I got one for our SQ5 and it works great and is a perfect way to make sure the electronic oil level system is working correctly.

Yeah, cause the rockets at the dealer can determine how the fluid was removed........
Either way I am supprised the dealers can properly change oil (there are bound to be some good techs at dealers though).
