Default Windshield Washer Fluid Recommendations

Hi, all. My indicator came on this week, so it's time to go get some windshield washer fluid. My dealer and others on this forum have told me to avoid Rain-X, but I was wondering if anyone has any fluid that they highly recommend (or would avoid in addition to Rain-X). With the nice weather this time of year, I'm not overly concerned, but in the winter in New England a nice clean windshield can be prized (and hard to come by). Thanks.

Your dealer will fill it at your 5K service for free and and any Audicare service for free also if that helps. I use the Prestone yellow de-ice in winter in between service. Don't use hardly any in Summer.

Look at the 1Z glass products...I've bought them all. In a class by themselves - - they're brilliant!

Thanks, RD. I'm a couple months from my 1 year, 15K AudiCare service, so I'll need a little to hold me over. Always good to have on hand anyway.

At this time of year, a gallon of distilled or de-ionized (no minerals) water from WalMart or your supermarket will get you through. Won't clean off bugs or sap, no, but it still gets off dirt and can't possibly harm anything while you look for a better solution.

I recommend going with any plain "blue" fluid with the 1Z Kristall Klar added in.
Distilled with 1Z will be fine for summer but just in case you don't use it all up by the time freezing temps arrive I go with the blue stuff.

But if you put a BMW part in an Audi...isn't that what the Kremlin used to call "Global Mutually Assured Destruction" ?

Two hordes of competing German tribes in neat overalls with incredible weapons swarm you from all sides and leave nothing except a smear on the sidewalk?

I buy the cheap blue stuff and it does the trick for me. The RainX fluid can gum up the pump/lines and mess with your wipers over time. I used to use it in other cars but now I know better.

Oh boy.. guess who put that into his car the other day.

I foresee some bumper hugger getting a half gallon of fluid blown at them in the next couple of days. ..... If you've never overwashed the window because someone was too close for your comfort, give it a try. Cheap and fun.
