Unfortunately the cold weather is coming- when I picked up my TDI from the dealer in Wisconsin I asked if they recommended any additive for the really cold weather figuring that would have really been an issue there. I used to use a Ford additive during the winter for my previous F-250 diesel.
To my surprise they said not necessary. Kind of surprised- anyone else in the cold weather going to do anything special?? Will it take any longer to start if it's been sitting outside for a while when REALLY cold? It will be sitting in a heated garage at night, but will be sitting outside during the day at work... (no glow plugs as far as I know...)

Glow plugs ....yes sir, they are much faster and efficient than on the f250, plus there is less cylinder area to heat. It took me a while to understand that there is no plug ..... not even an option for an external block heater.

Who told you that or where you read ?

All diesel engine in the Audi have glow plugs.

These are the glow plugs which are installed in your the engine

it'll take a second when you hit the starter button and you'll see a weird light on the dash but after that, it will start right up, no questions asked.

Thanks for the info on glow plugs (shoulda known that!), but what about the winter fuel???

If a fuel meets Audi standards you do not need additive.
Ask AA list of vendors whose diesel meets the standards

don't worry about the cold weather. If 18wheel trucks running on diesel runs fine throughout 360days. you shouldn't have any issues. Diesel engines needs the glow plugs. Below is a link for your reference. You can always google on facts about diesel engines.

You can not compare the heavy trucks with luxury cars
Truck engines have different working principle of a luxury car
New high-pressure systems and piezo injectors are sensitive to bad diesel, higher concentration sulfur content, etc. ........

believe me they are fine. I think audi has done extreme temperature testing on these cars when they make the TDI.
