Default Winter mats year-round?

In my previous card I left the rubber mats in 100% of the time. I'm trying very hard to take much better are of my Q5, though

Now with my first summer here, I've switched back to the carpeted mats. Still have some hints of salt stains I need to work harder on, but overall it certainly looks much cleaner.

But now my problem/fear is tracking mud and dirt in. Especially if it's been wet, it can be very easy to track mud into the car. Now I'm afraid of getting all the carpeting dirtier rather than getting rubber dirty which is MUCH easier to clean.

So what do you guys do - rubber mats always, or do you deal with the carpeting?

I have the WeatherTech custom fit mats that I leave in year-round. They look good and keep everything clean if I happen to have mud on my shoes in the summer.

Everytime I purchase a car I always get the dealer to give me a set of oem rubber mats and a cargo tray. If/when the oem mats wear out I replace then with weathertechs. I leave the new oem carpets in the garage and give them up when I sell the car.

Same here. The carpeted mats are on a shelf in the garage, while I use those nice rubber mats year-round. I like that they catch everything. I can yank 'em, dump 'em, and toss 'em back in. They fit very well and I think look nice with the under-seat lighting. My only issue with them, is that they're missing the "S".

Carpet mats keep the noise down.

I guess I'm in the minority... Do you all have light coloured carpet?

I have Weathertechs, but I switch back to the carpeted mats in the summer.
My floor carpeting is black, so I just need to vacuum once per week to make it look like new again.

This winter was my first with Weathertechs. They seemed to protect well, but their Achilles heel is that they don't hold much liquid capacity as I have plenty of salt staining near the rear of the front mats where overspill occurred.
This likely happened during heavy acceleration.... SQ5 problems?

Same here. I can't wait to get the hideous winter mats out of the car and out of my sight. They really spoil the appearance of Audi's beautiful interior. Sure, they're a necessary evil in my climate, but certainly not needed for 12 months.
