Default '17 SQ5

Am I crazy to pull the trigger on ordering a '17 SQ5 and waiting up to 3 months for a car that will be followed maybe 4-6 months (?) later by the redesigned model?? The dealer already confirmed that no dealer has a '17 on order that matches my specs/options.....

The '18 is just a cosmetic revision right?? and I am guessing that the S version might farther behind the "standard" Q5 when the '18s start arriving?

Is a '17 close to invoice reasonably close to an '18 at close to MSRP in terms of depreciation after a year or two? (no i do not plan to sell for at least 3-4yrs).

From some of the threads it sounds like it's not clear if a new gen SQ5 will be available at the initial launch. There are a couple of threads with additional info on the launch.

As nice as the current gen is, keep in mind that the current gen is in it's 9th model year and IMO only, is ready for an update in both styling and technology. You can't go wrong with a '17 SQ5 though. No teething issues to worry about.

The SQ5 will launch in Q2 of 2017 just like the Q5. Whether or not it will be the same month, I don't know, but the same quarter yes.

Most likely, there won't be an SQ5 for 2018MY when the new 2018 MY Q5 becomes available for ordering on Q2 next year (2017). This means that 2017MY is the last year for the current SQ5.

I think the timing of your purchase is just right especially if you plan to sell after 3 or 4 years. By that time (2020 or 2021, the bugs on the new generation SQ5 would have been sorted out. For the Euro market, the SQ5 will come equipped with the 3.0L TDI V6 engine. No one knows which engine Audi will use for the North American market since they're not selling any TDI equipped model right now.

SQ5 is launching in the US Q2 of 2017 just like the Q5. My guess is we will have the same (or similar) turbo V6 that will be in the S4.

Any guess where the new SQ5 will be manufactured? Will it be in Mexico like the Q5. FYI, just curious. I have nothing against Audi building cars in Mexico.

I don't see why it wouldn't be Mexico.

thanks everyone. My dealer told me that the ordering window for an SQ5 will be closing very soon - initially he said that it was closed. apparently there are not many '17 SQ5s on order/in the system - most dealers have what they have in stock and will wait for '18.

I am looking for a heavily optioned prestige. most dealers only have premiums.

I am going to try to get max discount and order a '17 - with no backlog of orders I would think it could get built more quickly than the standard 3 mos....presumably Audi wants to get them done quickly so that the line can be switched over to '18. I am not interested in waiting another 4-6mos for an '18 that the dealer is going to try get MSRP for and then have to deal with teething issues....
