Hehe... well, I own an RS5, so I already have the feature as well as the sport differential .

Awesome. Still I believe it is a great idea for companies to improve their products with additional safety features especially if it has to do with firmware updates and ESP. I can do the promotion in all audi/car forums and car magazines foc.

After more reading it seems that torque vectoring was offered by Audi only with crown differential.

Torsen type 3 differential was never offered with brake type torque vectoring (advanced ESP). Evidence say it is a a dead end.

The intention is always to help others if we can, but also to get help if needed. Knowledge of TPIs is very important when you have an Audi. Audi Firmware updates are many because they improve technology year by year. The intention was to find out if there was such an improvement. It is nice when people take part in the discussions, thus knowledge/information gets distributed.

Done Some more research on ESP control modules for facelift:

My firmware is:
8R0 907 379 C 0230 (PR-1AT). This was an initial Audi 2009 hardware with TPMS, which was not enabled. Lucky on this.

Having an S-tronic with Torsen differential (type 3) I believe I could upgrade my ESP module (but that would be too expensive) or update the firmware (that would be ideal) in order to have this state of art technology / functionality. Hope that Audi can support if there is such possibility. I am prepared to pay to Audi more than just an update fee for this advancement in technology.

The only firmware I have found on disc is 8R0907379BG_0030.sgo. BG (PR-A8U+1AT+1LC,1LP). Not sure if it is compatible with hardware.

The only SVM I have found is XCHG03A001 but I think this is for replacing with new ESP hardware same as you do when you replace the comfort module (with a different SVM XCHG46A001).

Additional information for enabling ESP Torque vectoring (Audi calls it XDS in VCDs):

Activation works according to the part number of the ABS / ESP system.

My current firmware supports Hill hold control, hill descend control, ESP with DWS (deflation warning system). I need XDS firmware which also supports the above.

How to activate with VCDS:
1. ABS
2. Byte 17
3. Select Bit 3 - Extended Electronic Differential Lock (XDS)
4. Do it
5. Adaptation
6. Channel 36 Electronic Differential Lock
7. Value 1 weak Value 2 Strong
8. New Value 2
8. Save
9. Done

I will check if there is a way of activating XDS from adaptation, using a different channel on my module since I do not have an option in byte 17 or any other bytes.

XDS is an extension of EDS. It works on curvy roads and it is also called ESP - brake type - torque vectoring. EDL works only up to 80km/hr (funny my manual says 125Km/hr). So XDS is an improvement.

Does anyone know if I can update firmware 8R0907379C with 8R0907379BG?? Is there a TPI with an SVM from Audi?

Cheers.

1. Mechanical - Sports Differential (also called active torque vectoring)
2. Electronic - Uses Electronic Stability Control (ESC) advanced firmware called brake type torque vectoring (or passive torque vectoring)

The sport differential uses active torque vectoring which is an expensive option for most. Increases torque immediately, without braking, if a rear wheel needs it.

Audi has also made available the cheaper option which simulates electronically torque vectoring e.g. when cornering / road curves, by using an advanced logarithm / an advanced firmware for the ESP/ABS control unit to prevent oversteer understeer. This system slightly brakes individual wheels in order to give more torque to the opposite axle wheel in order to improve stability.

I was referring to the second type. Brake type torque vectoring. This was not offered with my 2009 Audi Q5 but I was expecting that Audi would have offered this technology in later models 2009-2012 Q5 (pre-facelift). Maybe Audi could go back in time and give this technology to us, an advanced safety feature. This is a technology which is worth to be added to all B8 quattro cars (without sports differentials). This is an incentive for all Audi B8 owners to return back to Audi garages. I think this will benefit both.
Hi Mate,
How would I know the type of diff I have on my Q5 3.2 2009?
Do you have Pic's or part number?
Cheers,

Cheers,
if you have 8 speed is tiptronic
If you have 7 speed is s-tronic
If you have a vcds you can read the control unit firmware. Paste the dtc scan 02 control unit here. I only have experience with s-tronic but I can tell you what is your software and firmware number.

Do you wish to give your opinion on torque vectoring subject?? I dont think we will have a +ve result on this. Speaking with an Audi engineer/electrician he does not recommend to cross flash ABS firmware with other hardwares firmware (not compatible).
