I just purchased a 2016 Q5 3.0T. Reading the manual, it recommends top-tier gas, Costco gas was not listed.


I thought gas from different brands are pretty much the same, but my neighbor told me that his BMW 550 definitely doesn't like Costco gas, all other brands are fine.


What's your take and experience about Costco gas in a Q5?

I put Costco premium (it is Top Tier) in my SQ5. Not broken yet.
Will fill once a month with Shell or Chevron.

I would not hesitate using Costco gas. It is Top Tier.

Top Tier Gasoline

Most gas is pretty much the same with all of it coming from area wholesaler/distributors. The additives will vary, but how different they are is open to interpretation.

I never had an issue with Costco gasoline with my Saab (which require premium gasoline). I never hesitated putting their gasoline in my car.

I use Costco sometimes. But I am really not hung up on using top tier Gas. As long as it's premium I don't care. This is my second Audi. I run 91 or higher in all my Gas vehicles

My Q5 2.0 runs fine on Costco premium. occasionally I'll put in a tank full of Petrocanada ( was Sunoco) 94 but I see no difference in economy or performance.

I have run my '95 300ZX twin turbo on both Costco and Shell premium gas. On a whim, I tested the car with each brand on a dyno a week apart (to assure that the tank was "clean" of the first brand). Adjusted for minor temperature differences, the car produced slightly more horsepower on the Costco gas. For what it is worth, at least COSTCO gas has similar octane to Shell in one test.

I run Costco gas in my Q5 and Corvette C7 Z51. No issues, have been using it for years.

Good news. We found Costcos in California and Texas that sell diesel. We just saved $.60 a gallon by pumping in one of them.

Regarding their gas, they are rated as Top Tier. We have been using both their regular and premium without issues.

We are very careful with our cars and only use top grade fuel, oil, parts, mechanics, etc.
