Default Hitch and Roof Box advice. TIA

I'm looking to add a hitch for bike transport and a roof box for baggage and I would like some advice on your own experiences about these items. TIA

I did a search on the board and found both the Audi and the Thule boxes on the Q5, I liked the Thule Atlantis 1600 a lot.

Anyone with Yakima?

I have a Thule for both. 4-bike carrier for the hitch and a Thule Evolution box. Both work well with the exception of fitment of the bikes to the carrier. Some bikes do not fit well...so I advise that you try before you buy. Any Thule box should fit on the cross-bars "without a hitch".

We went with the aftermarket Curt Hitch. A PIA to install but well worth it IMO. Thule Boxter and Parkway 2 bike setup. Afterall its just me an the spouse these days. The hitch is well hidden and with the bike rack on it's slung lower doesn't stick out too much.

fantastic, I guess Thule is the way to go, as far as the hitch I'm not sure if the Curt will fit under the S-line rear bumper... any thoughts?

If you are only going to use the hitch for a bike carrier then the Curt is the way to go. It does hang down considerably lower than OEM but it requires no cutting of the bumper...a big plus.
I went with OEM because I trailer a lot and wanted the wiring done and Q configured for it when I took delivery. I took the family and our kayaks to the North Landing River last weekend and to gain access to the launch site you have to clear an elevated RR track. The hitch just did scrape the pavement when I went over it, but we made it just fine. Had I had the Curt I don't think we would have made it at all.

good info, well this is my rear S-line bumper I wonder if the Curt will stick out in the bottom... how much did you pay for the OEM one I wonder? how much is the Curt and where would be the best place to order it? I need to move fast because I have to pick up/deliver kids at camp in a couple of weeks and I think I won't have the space I need,,,

Default Roof Top Carrier

I just bought the Thule Atlantis 1600 from Auto Anyything

http://shop.autoanything.com/roof-ra...A3097A0A0.aspx

It fit my 2011 Q5 very well and did not cut down on my MPG on my 500 mile trip to the Outer Banks of North Carolina from Penna. I still managed to get 28.5 mpg on the trip - same as I get without the roof top carrier. I was able to fit 2 very large suitcases, a beach umbrella and another duffle bag as well. The Thule's are not cheap but come with a lifetime warranty and are half the price of the Audi carrier that is made by Thule for Audi.
