Just recently got my SQ5, and it's funny my first post is on this topic. But I actually can provide some value add here.
1) My glock 23 fits PERFECTLY in the center console. In a diagonal orientation, it goes in snug against the felt and does not move at all. Glock 23 and glock 19 have the same dimensions.
2) I had a Console Vault in my Tundra TRD Pro (traded in for the sq5), which I attached a holster to on the inside. It was perfect. (I can upload a pic if anyone here requests). However the Tundra's center console was 3x the size of the q5/sq5.

A Springfield XDS 9mm fits nicely in the center console as well, for those keeping track.
I have a GunVault MicroVault in the trunk under the cargo net, with a towel over it, for more long-term storage if needed. It's not bolted down and slides around a bit but it was the best convenience/responsibility option I came up with.

H&K P2000 fits in the door pocket on my A6 and A8.
M60 and belts would fit nicely into the trunk. M60 is pretty old school though. I'd recommend upgrading to the M249.

I post this to maybe give others ideas. My RS4 has a thumb break holster under the steering wheel column. It fits perfectly and is secured with a velcro strap in the document holder slot that was meant for the owners manual. The thumb break holster allows very quick access yet holds the firearm securely to abrupt driving maneuvers.

The thumb break holster under the steering column is a great idea - I use it as well if it's not on my belt.

My XDS9 fits right between the trans tunnel and the seat frame. The barrel lays flat against the floor. From the drivers seat, any lefty should be able to shoot with his right hand at such short range. If you're really trying to fend someone off, from the drivers seat,your left hand range is minimal, you'll need to fend with your left, and your gun is totally out of reach if your door is opened. I have an under the steering wheel holster in our F150, it's great for seats that high, but there's no way to hook it to the knee dash in the Audi. Try it over there. Cower, tuck, pull it, and shoot. Better to be judged by 12, than carried by six.

There is enough room under each of the front seats (if you haven't installed anything else) so that a "gun drawer" style of gun safe should be able to fit, to accommodate most handguns. Of course that would be for securing a weapon, not for fast access, but it is one option.
Having had too many things stolen from cars during either thefts or break-ins over the years, I wouldn't leave a Saturday night special in the car, much less a decent handgun. There's just too good a chance that it will wind up in the wrong hands after it is stolen, and even in a court or school parking lot, windows get broken and whole cars get stolen.
Which puts it back to carrying, and needing the "You can't bring that in here" adjusted.
