Default MMI problems

Lately I've been experiencing issues on my whole mmi. My navigation will freeze and none of my controls will work. Not on the steering wheel or on the dials to turn it on and off. Sometimes it'll reboot on its own after a few minutes. The xm will still work and signal still transmits but I can't control anything. This started last week and has done it 4 times now. Car has 67k miles

Other than doing a reboot of the system (see manual), not much you can do but take in for service.

Thanks. Is there an actual fix for it at the dealer? Seems to be quite common on threads around here.

I'm sure the dealer can fix it, the question is what is the problem and how much. It could be the buttons on the shifter console, or it could be within the MMI unit. I recall posts on the forum of replacing the MMI unit could be thousands of dollars. I know it sounds scary.

Check out this link: MMI 3G parts repair - mmirepair.com

You might want to call them and maybe they can give you advice.

Do a reboot as stop gap. Learn the keys so you can do it on the fly pending fix. If MMI version is before the 2015 release, it would get updated for that by dealer w/ the kind of symptoms you describe. It is in a TSB if you search. If in warranty, they should do a repair called for in a TSB. Post warranty you are usually on your own/owner pay.

I found the three keys to manually reboot the system but not to revert it back to last update. Still struggling with the freezing/rebooting problems. Help. Manual says nothing additional about refreshing the system.

What's your current firmware version? The latest available update is 942_3 and according to the TSB it fixes MMI freezing issues.

Default Update - out of warranty Dealer fix

Apparently there is a TSB for this freezing issue. Dealer states since my car is out of warranty they charge $186 to update the MMI 😖

Scratch that .. apparently the 5F - information electronics control module J794 - internal hard drive is failing. Quoted $2750 (part $2200)

If I was in your situation, I would call this MMI repair center and see if they can replace your hard drive with a solid state drive (SSD) with the MMI image.

MMIrepair.com opens a company in the USA - mmirepair.com

MMI Repair Center Inc.

To give the best possible service to our US customers we've set up a shipping address in New York!

High shipping costs and high customs costs in Belgium as well as in the USA has made us rethink our service to our many (new) US based customers.
The question we've asked ourselves was: "how can we give our customers the best and affordable option to repair their Audi MMI parts like the B&O 8T0035223T and Display Interfaces?". We're glad to have found an answer to that question!

Recently we were in New York to meet with US businesses. In that time we've managed to setup a new business: MMI Repair Center Inc. With that new business also comes a shipping address. As of now: there's no need to send your faulty parts oversees but instead send it to our facility in New York for repair!

Shipping address (for US customers only!):
MMI Repair Center INC.
626 RXR Plaza
Uniondale, NY 11556

Telephone (for US customers only):
+1 (347) 209-8194
