I realize this is an old thread, but wondering if anyone did manage to update their maps/firmware for pre 2013 Q5's? I have a 2011, is it possible to get the latest maps?

Yes is possible, you must visit dealers to upgrade software and maps

8R0-060-884-BD NAR 6.8.2 North-America version 2013/2014
8R0-060-884-BL NAR 6.9.2 North-America LAST VERSION 2014

And be prepared to give your credit card a workout. U.S. Dealers appear to be charging $300-$400 to do the map updates.

Thanks guys for the feedback - Are,there any significant updates in the software? Maps alone doesn't seem worth it at that price esp. since I've a garmin with lifetime maps/traffi from my previous car.

AFAIK, the map updates only refresh the base map with road changes, etc. sourced from NavTeq and the MMI internal POIs (not the Audi Connect Google online search POIs which are separate and dynamic). For the ridiculous price charged, I'm going to wait at least three years from purchase before updating, especially since I regularly and mostly use Google search for POIs which are far more up to date anyway. Updated roads will have to wait.

This is just plain sad considering my $300 Garmin has free lifetime updates and displays far more useful data. Not sure why the manufacturers continue to gouge people over nav maps and Audi isn't the only one. A nav disk for my TL was about $125 last time I checked.

I agree I have the Garmin as well with LMT. However, I did notice that Audi's maps seem to cover Hawaii, Mexico, Canada, and a few other places. I wonder if it's partially (not completely since it's significantly more ) more expensive because they have to license more map data? My Garmin covers US and Canada only. My BMW doesn't have Mexico and is about 200-300 for the update discs. At least there you don't need to get the dealer to do it.

What's more frustrating/galling is that the majority of the cost is labor for the dealer to install the update, which is now a requirement for Nav Plus equipped models. The tech doesn't have to sit in the car for the full three hours or so to update the maps, but a service bay is occupied, ergo the hourly charges. This is one area that Audi (and other manf) need to change the update model to reflect something the PND manfs. have been doing for several years. My guess is Audi feels the consumer is not capable of doing their own updates or that they will mess something up. Or, they have decided to protect the dealers' service dept. revenue. Whatever the reason, I feel it's time for Audi to reconsider the map update method in the interest of customer service.

When I asked in November 2013, the dealership said that map version 6.8.2 was the most current one. Does anyone know when 8R0-060-884-BL NAR 6.9.2 North-America LAST VERSION 2014 (per spijun) became available at US dealerships?

What does "LAST VERSION" mean? Does it mean that there won't ever be 2015+ maps?
