Rusty Pitting on Lower Chrome Trim
After just one winter season on my 2014, I'm seeing some fairly extensive pitting on the trim piece below the doors. I took several photographs but it will take a better photographer than me to produce a photo that shows the pitting on a reflective surface.
Anyone else notice this same problem ? I live in Wisconsin and generally washed the car at least once every 2 weeks but it was tough to keep the car clean this past winter. Still, I think any type of corrosion on a modern car over just one winter is unusual. I will be stopping in at the Audi dealer this week (so that they can replace the front plate filler due to peeling paint) and I plan to inquire if the pitting is normal.

I've seen that on my 2013. Its generally surface rust that rubs off with a little polish. I've put two coats of metal wax on them and they have survived nicely. I haven't been too happy with the look of the chrome pieces and now I have to give them extra attention when cleaning.

It's either polished aluminum or stainless steel

You need to use a "metal" polish.......
I use this as I like that it is in wadding form, you just pull a piece off and use it. Works great.

It should last me 200 years, big bottle, but my father used it on his stainless steel trim on his boats and it works great.

Thanks everyone. I will give one of the polish products a try. Just hope I only have to do this once a year in the Spring.
As for brake dust... the thought did occur to me, but I don't think so. I've not noticed any problems with my rims and the finish (hyper silver) is similar to the Q5's chrome trim. At least it looks exactly the same.
