Hi Everyone,

If the FOB battery is dead is there any other way to start my 2012 Audi Q5 Premium Plus ?

Also in regards to the start button , to start the car can i just press the brake and then press start for lets say 3-4 seconds or do i usually have to hold the start button with the brake pressed until engine turns over... ?

I don't recall needing to hold the button to start, but your foot does have to remain on the brake pedal. If the FOB battery is dead, can't you just put the key into the dash slot? I don't think the battery is necessary to use that.

Yeah, no need to hold it for 3-4 seconds. Just press and immediately let it go. Just hold your foot on the brake pedal.

Sorry guys should have been more clear i haven't actually haven't picked up the car yet, it still at the dealer i purchased it for my wife to replace her A4.

I thought PTS model Q5's didnt have a slot to insert the fob, am i wrong on this ?

if it has a slot then i never need to worry about having the battery die

Q5 still has a slot. Newer models don't have a slot anymore, instead they have a place on the dash where you hold the fob against while pushing the start button. The effect is the same. The battery is not needed to start the car. There's an inductive coil in the slot or the dash that powers the chip inside of the key to read it while starting the car. The battery is only needed for remote locking/unlocking or starting the car with the key in your pocket. You should also be getting a plastic emergency key and a case in the shape of the fob. The emergency key has no battery at all. You put it inside of the case, so that it fits in the slot and you take it out of the case to manually lock/unlock the car.

What superswiss said. And they are common "coin" cell batteries, any pharmacy or big box store probably carries them, easily changed. In theory, a 5-10 year shelf life for new ones, and 2-3 years of use in the fob.

The clever salesman tried to tell me that the dashboard slot recharges the fob. I didn't have the heart to tell him, it doesn't, it can't, these coin cell batteries only burst and catch fire if you try hard enough to recharge them(G)
