So I guess the moral of this story is that you shouldn't buy a used Audi unless it is a CPO from the dealer.

Yeah, I bought it from my favorite VW dealer, so CPO wasn't an option. I'll try calling the local dealer with my VIN and go from there.

My story. 2012 Q5. Bought new, took delivery in late 2011. Around 60,000 miles started requiring oil between oil changes (previously used none). Came back to Audiworld for info search, and found this thread. Last oil change asked dealer to conduct the consumption test. Just completed this week, fail. Also they did a compression check and borescoped the cylinders. I'm the original owner, have always had work done at a dealer (which has just been oil changes and brakes), bought new A4 for SWMBO from this dealer (Q was purchased somewhere else). They have told me Audi will cover my repair. Since they'll have the engine exposed I'm also having the water pump and timing chain replaced, those I'm paying for out of pocket.

The big takeaway from my experience is that they will cover some vehicle outside of the range of the class action suit.

Since I just began tracking my oil use, I've used 1/2 quart in about 500 miles. Sounds like I need to contact Audi. Seems that my 2012 has the issue as well. Should I contact the dealer first, or Audi? Naturally, I'm not the original owner, having just bought it last Sept.

How many miles on the Q5?

I would call corporate Audi Customer Service and open a case with them, get the case number. That way if the dealer doesn't respond favorably you can tell them you contacted Audi HQ and have a case number, dealers usually then do something.

About 73,000 miles. I've never had anything use oil like this since my Dad's Mazda rotary pickup back in the 70s.

My relative's 2011 Q5 used a quart of oil every 500 miles, they gave him a new engine (long block).

I believe that the 2.0T burning TSB fix is only good at less than 80K miles so contact Audi fairly quick.

Hopefully you have a complete service history (preferably performed by an Audi dealer) as if no history, Audi isn't going to work with you to fix this.

If you are getting this fixed, make sure that you change the timing chain tensioner as you can have one of the historic bad ones and when that goes it basically
trashes the engine to a tune of about $7K to fix. If you plan on keeping the Q5 a long time you may also want to have them change the timing chain guides
and even look at changing the timing chain as they do stretch affecting timing and performance.

Do the water pump too, as a while you're there.

Thank you sooooo much for your guidance! I have an A5 2011 which had the SB performed yet I was still having the problem and it was getting progressively worse. Vehicle was using 1qt of oil in approx 300 miles. I followed your instructions with exception that I called Audi of America to have them of the issues and had them look up my vin number, prior to calling Audi dealer who continued to assure me I had no problem. Started oil consumption test, at 336 miles 1qt oil used, called Audi of America again and advised that SB was completed, a second seal broken and replaced and this is not okay. They stated to have vehicle towed to Audi and they would pay for all repairs. Vehicle has 79,750 miles....Audi of America approved the repairs and are finally replacing the piston rings. I will update you when I get vehicle back next week 2-23-2017.

Anyone with experience/thoughts with trying BG EPR oil treatment as a fix for the oil burning issue?

Why? Are engine oil properties the problem or the piston diameter and the PCV / high engine vacuum??
After applying both fixes I have no oil consumption.
