In case someone else does this:

The metal clip is a throwaway after you take it out. In my case it was much harder to get out than this video shows. It was on REALLY tight and you have to really pry it open with a flat head screw driver and it takes some time and some amount of force. I put a cloth around the area because it's easy to have the screw driver fly off in the direction of force and gouge the mmi control area.

I was planning on using a zip tie, but then the new shifter I got had a rotating clip that tightens in place of the metal one so I didn't have to. This is OEM S shifter **** available on ebay. It looks very nice in the Q5.

Small digression:
That blue plastic prybar? Anyone have a good source for something like that in the US? Strong enough to pry, soft enough not to scratch?

I'm planning to lose the "coin holder" and replace it with something more useful, maybe a custom power socket. Or is there anything else that's already pre-formed to fit in the same hole?

Outstanding, thank you!

But of course, they aren't designed to work with the Q5. (WEG)

Considering the tight fit of all the trim, wow, tools for less than ten bucks a piece ?! Nice find!
