SQ5 Winter Wheels/Tires

Plastidip is cheap, easy and works well in winter. Easily removed if you don't like it. Black matte finish looks good too. Don't try to paint the wheels. Done it and it's a pain in the butt, doesn't last and doesn't look any better than the plastidip for winter wheels.

[QUOTE=jallen0;24889644]Finally got my winter tire package on. I went from the 21" Black Optic SQ5 rims to the 19" SQ winter rim/tire package. I am not sure I like the shiny rim look.
This is my predicament as well. I have a moonlight blue SQ5 with BO and I would prefer OEM rims in black or gun metal. The shinier rims don't look too bad on your gray though. I feel like they would really stick out on my dark car. I am thinking about getting some used OEMs and having, what the other reply suggested, plasti-dip or powder coating put on.

I'd give the plastidip (or similar product) a try first to see how you like the look. The nice thing is that it's durable but temporary, so you can remove it if you don't like the look or need to return the wheels to the original finish. I used Halo EFX on my old winter wheels and peeled it off when I sold them.

The science behind winter tires and how they work
The science behind winter tires and how they work - The Globe and Mail
All-season tires are a bad compromise. On snow, ice or cold pavement, the stopping distance of a car equipped with winter tires can be 30 to 40 per cent shorter than one with all-seasons. Since the force of a crash increases as the square of impact speed, this could be the difference between life and death. Although it’s the treads that you notice, the most important part of a winter tire is actually its rubber compound

Mr Pearl Blue that is a damn tight fit....nice work finding an 18" that will fit....probably keeps unsprung weight down if the rim is light enough. Have you weighed one of those wheels inflated with air? I'd be curious to know what they come out at...

Finally got my winter shoes put on tonight. Took me 2+ hours to go 45 miles on the way there, roads were in terrible shape. Fun drive home though, wow what a difference good winter shoes make!!

Hi folks,
Picked up my '17 SQ5 the other night. See pics below.
I thought I would be able to (barely) fit my 19" BBS SR winter set from my S4..but some of the spokes do not clear the caliper. I tried reading this entire thread to figure out what wheels fit the SQ5. I found a set of 19" takeoffs with nice high sidewall snow tires, but don't know if they will fit. Anyone have any experience with these?
edited to add:The wheel is 8R0 601 025 AL and according to another thread here, these WILL work. Just leaving this post here so others facing the same issue can find the answer.
Thanks for your help!
