Default Automatic vs Manual Mode

Has anyone had or heard of transmission issues with the manual mode? I recall when many cars started to offer their automatic transmissions with "manual" mode or the option to "shift" on your own.

I had the feature on my 1997 prelude, 2002 audi a4, 2006 outback xt, and my 2014 Q5 TDI and wonder if the "manual" mode could actually harm the transmission. I used the mode in a limited fashion in the 1997 prelude and audi and instead use sport mode instead of drive if I wanted a slightly sportier rude or when passing etc...

Back in the late 90's when I first had the added feature in the car I believe I read about a lot of transmission issues since the shifting wasn't obviously a real manual transmission but a bit of a gimick(y) feature... Had this feature changed and become a safe/r feature with low risk of transmission problems...?

I'm assuming the transmission of our cars our coveted under normal warranty or extended warranties...?

I've had four Audis w/tiptronic transmissions with manual override. Never had any issues with using the manual tip. Audi has been perfecting the tiptronics for many years.

Actually, ZF has been in the transmission business since 1915. They are the ones who have been perfecting them for many years.

True enough although I suspect Audi engineers have had input to the ZF designs as well over those years for their vehicles. Nevertheless, the OP should not be concerned about using manual mode with an Audi as much as desired w/o worry. There are many other things I would be concerned about first.
