^ Not sure they could necessarily know what the liability is. And even if they did, wouldn't they want that loss spread over future years? I'm thinking of the shareholders (whom are also suing them).

Yeah..that's why the rule exists...You know you are liable you have to make a good faith effort to accrue the loss in the fiscal year when you realize it is 'probable'.

The report says it's only 25,000 of the 85,000 3.0L TDI's out there. And even that number hasn't been confirmed. For those looking for a buyback, I hope you get that option, but I wouldn't be doing any car shopping just yet.

It would be hard to find another vehicle that has the same power, fuel economy, and options as the Q5 TDI. You could buy a BMW X5, but that's all I can think of in the price range of a VW or Audi.
My wife has been searching for a replacement for her Passat. She's been looking at the X5, MDX, Highlander, and Touareg. I told her to buy the Touareg. If she doesn't like it VW will probably buy it back and she can get something else.

Complaint on the wire services today, that a number of users will be asking the judge to reject the offer.

They contend that the offer does not make them whole for the entire cost of the car, including one-shot registration, documenting, transfer, title, other fees and taxes that in some cases ran well upwards of $500. Among other things. So, not a done deal yet. There's a material issue that VWG conveniently forgot some of the collateral damage they did.

If it was an honest mistake, VWG's counsel would say to the judge "Your honor, that's correct, we never realized that. Of course we'll cover those expenses too." and still conclude the settlement on the same day. If they ask for another 90 day extension...that's just another stall.

Being made 'whole' is the key for me.

Cost of the car plus
Registration/sales tax
Aftermarket wheels
Winter Tires
Clear Mask
Audi Care

One thing I can't figure out- the 86000 vehicle figure has been used in the past to cover all vehicles on the road with the V6 TDI (across Audi/Porsche/VW) but the news reports are now saying it's 86000 Audi V6 TDI- which one is correct? The vast majority of Touaregs I see are diesels, and I see a lot more of those than Audi diesels- Q7 being the exception, for the first year or two I think the TDI was the only engine offered in the Prestige trim. I remember that being the case when I ordered my '10 Q7. Anyone have insight?

I think the context of 86,000 Audi's... is that Audi was the designer and builder of the 3.0L V-6 TDI engine used by VW and Porsche.

Just like VW is responsible for the 475,000 2.0L TDIs, including those put in Audi's.

Aftermarket wheels and winter tires are a long shot. I'm hoping I get my extended warranty covered since I won't be needing it.
