+1; if they don't do it on an insurance total loss as an analogy, it's going to be a stretch. You would get replacement sales tax value on a total, at least here in CA, but I doubt many of the others on the list. I've had the debates with the insurance co.'s on several. Might get AudiCare credited on a replacement. More specifics to TDI's, IIRC some of the objectors argued for some of these kinds of items at the hearing but court went ahead anyway. Look at 2.0 TDI settlement as likely best guidance on these add on items.

Recently I was going to buy a 2nd set of wheels for winter tires with the scandal cards and at the last minute just decided to buy some Nitto 421Qs for the factory 20s. If this actually happens across the board, which I still doubt, at least I won't have that 2nd set of wheels/tires to muck with. We love this car and TDI too so a buyback is NOT what we would have preferred . . .

To keep or not to keep could be a tough call. My car was 9 months old at the time the scandal broke. If the fix significantly impacts performance and the buyback addresses AudiCare and Extended warranties it may be 'new car' time... Time will tell.

Assuming a buy-back is authorized, I expect that we will have some time to continue to drive our Q5 TDI's. I based this on the 2.0L TDI timeline that allows folks the option to buyback or fix up to May 2018. So I assume we are looking at a later end date of late 2018.

With the 2.0 buyback, I have to drive my Passat and Jetta to the dealer under their own power. Keep that in mind, as I'll bet it will apply here as well.

Good to know. I highly doubt the engine or tranny would blow up with less than 100k miles (as will probably be the case with the Q5s), but it is a consideration to ditch it early if you have an older 2.0

Circling back to OP and then my reply, this Autoweek article suggests it is in fact the early three liter Q7's that were the subject of the buyback scenario.
Volkswagen diesel scandal fallout may affect older Audi Q7 TDI SUVs
But again, a close reading still leaves it vague--almost as though the author was taking info like in this overall post and melding it into earlier report of Der Spiegel article. Seems like waiting for next hearing is how it will indeed get better answered.
